Did you hear or know that you don’t need to remove that old wallpaper. Removing or pull out of old wallpaper can cause damage to your house walls especially if it has been on there for many years. Also, if the wallpaper is in better condition; which means there is no signs of peeling or adhesion failure, then there is no logic to invest the money to remove wallpaper it before painting your room.
Preparation we need to do before painting
It is important to prepare your walls carefully before we should go for painting. Follow these important steps to ensure the better results:
1- Start by restoring any dinged sections and adding adhesive to loose pieces or parts to minimize the chance of paper will fall.
2- Try to add a thin line of clear caulk around the perimeter of the walls i.e. at the joint seam where the paper meets the floor & ceiling. This will help us to seal the edges and keep the paper from peeling after you have painted.
3- Cover thickly textured paper with a thin coat of joint compound i.e. Spackle. This material will help us to smooth out the surface so that the texture won’t show through the paint.
4- Smoothly sand down the seams of the wallpaper so they weren’t too notable.
5- Apply a thin coat of oil based primer to the entire surface of the walls before going for painting. This helps us to seal the adhesive within the paper and keep away the moisture from the paint.
6- After doing all the above steps your wallpaper is now ready for painting.
